The first-class compartment was also eliminated in the earlier ABC series, and the carriages were henceforth designated BC4 Pr 00 or BC4 Pr 98a. The carriages were continuously adapted to changing requirements; for example, they received sleeve buffers instead of basket buffers and different brake hoses at an early stage. The "Bachmann caps" on the clerestory windows were also replaced by Wendler suction cups.
