Information about the model
In the 1970s, the East German railcar manufacturing industry produced almost exclusively for export. The DR (East German State Railway) therefore had to look elsewhere to replace its aging fleet and acquire more vehicles to meet the increased transport demands. The production of new wagons in its own repair works (Raw) provided some relief, but this technology was not suitable for specialized wagons. At the beginning of the 1970s, the East German Ministry of Foreign Trade successfully concluded extensive barter agreements with France, resulting in the DR receiving approximately 20,000 new freight wagons of various types. Among these, 1,250 four-axle mineral oil tank wagons were delivered from 1975 onwards. These were classified under documentation number 8105 and type Uahs, with serial numbers beginning at 727 0000. The wagons had a welded underframe made of St 52-3 steel without a center longitudinal beam, Y25Cs type bogies, and a split drawbar. The five-compartment tank, made of 7 mm thick steel sheet (9 mm in the base), has a volume of 85,150 liters, thus allowing full utilization of the then-maximum permissible axle load of 20 tons. The KE-GP type compressed air brake with brake linkage adjuster and mechanical load-dependent braking was supplemented by a platform-operated handbrake and represented the state of the art at the time. The wagons were primarily used in unit trains and served mainly for the transport of fuels such as gasoline and diesel. Since the GDR also exported these fuels to generate foreign currency, the wagons were also used in such transport operations in the "NSW – Non-Socialist Economic Area".
