The E 10 class locomotives were put into service by the Deutsche Bundesbahn from 1956 for heavy express and fast trains on main lines. The locomotives reached a top speed of 150 km/h and had an output of 3.260 kW. In the course of production (from E 10 216), the large single lamps were replaced by two smaller lamps (one as a headlight, one as a tail light); this version was designated E 10.2 according to the serial numbers.
