The E 41 series machines (from 1968: 141) were first delivered to the Deutsche Bundesbahn in 1956 for light and mixed service on main lines with a maximum speed of 120 km/h and a continuous output of 2,310 kW. They were the only series in the standard locomotive program to receive a switchgear on the low-voltage side of the transformer. The rear derailleur had a characteristic noise, which, in addition to the large jumps in traction, led to the nickname “firecracker”. From 1987 the locomotives were given an oriental red paint job.
