The T 478.1 series was a diesel-electric universal locomotive of the CSD. A total of 230 locomotives of the T 478.1 series were delivered between 1966 and 1971. In 1969 and 1970, an additional 82 locomotives designated T 478.2 were delivered as a freight variant. These locomotives were identical to the T 478.1 series except for the absence of a steam boiler.
