The Da electric locomotive was an important locomotive on Sweden's electrified railway network for decades. Commissioned from the 1950s onwards, it provided train services for the Statens Järnvägar (SJ) in both passenger and freight transport and remained in active service until the 1990s. Its robustness, versatility, and longevity made it, alongside the famous Dm and Dm 3 locomotives, one of Sweden's best-known locomotive types.
The locomotives were designed for the Swedish single-phase AC system (15 kV, 16 2/3 Hz) and reached a top speed of 100 km/h. With a power output of around 2,000 kW, they were suitable for both heavy freight service and medium-duty passenger service.
