The rapid modernization of the Austrian electric locomotive fleet began with the commissioning of the first “Taurus” locomotive class 1016 in the summer of 1999. A dual-system version of this universal locomotive for AC operation with 15 kV/16.7 Hz and 25 kV/50 Hz was also purchased. By 2006, 282 Class 1116 locomotives had entered service. They are rated for 230 km/h. Their power is 6,400 kW. In 2008, RCA acquired the freight division of the Hungarian railway (MAV Cargo Rt.). Since then, Rail Cargo Hungaria has been a member of the Rail Cargo Group. Locomotives 1116 001–034, 048, and 049 have been assigned to it for traction in its operational area. The 1116 014 is equipped with the country package for Austria, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
