From 1992, the improved Class 112.1 was jointly procured by DB and DR. The most noticeable external change compared to the Class 112.0 is the combination of the large headlights and taillights into small combined halogen lamps. These express train locomotives, with an output of 4,000 kW and a top speed of 160 km/h, are in service throughout Germany on Intercity, Regional Express, and special passenger trains.
