Between 1997 and 2000, a total of 80 locomotives of the 145 series were put into service. Their primary area of operation was initially freight transport for Deutsche Bahn, particularly DB Cargo. Technically, the locomotives feature modern three-phase asynchronous motors, a power output of 4,200 kW, and an electric resistance and regenerative braking system. Today, the 145 series remains in service, primarily with private railway companies and leasing firms.
