Prototype: In French "Coupe Vent" means Windbreak. The C.145 was the first streamlined steam locomotive in the world. The aerodynamic smokebox door and domes were streamlined
achieving slightly higher speeds. The "Coupe Vente" class C.145s were built from 1898 till 1901 and put into service by the PLM Railroad in 1905. This locomotive was a
four-cylinder compound machine which achieved a maximum speed of 85 kmph. The PLM placed this locomotive into express service. At the time it was one of the most powerful
locomotives in the world.
